Introduction / History

The Ingush are among the many peoples of the Caucasus Mountains of western Russia. They speak their own language, but there are many other Muslim people groups in their part of western Russia who also have their own language. Their ancestors were part of the Ottoman Empire that frequently clashed with the Russian Empire.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Ingush people in western Russia practice animal husbandry from their six villages. Life is difficult in this mountainous terrain. The Ingush people are isolated, and they don't trust any outsiders, especially the Russians. The ancient adversarial relationship continues to this day, and it shows no sign of changing.

It will take much effort to get through to such people; trust comes at a cost. They are at the mercy of a government that despises them.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Islam is a strong spiritual deterrent to those who might look to the cross for answers. It is also a cultural anchor for the Ingush in a country dominated by Russian Orthodoxy.

What Are Their Needs?

There are probably about thirty scattered Ingush followers of Christ. Ingush need these few believers to shine with the light of the Holy Spirit and take Christ's great name to every Ingush village. At least one Russian Christian believer has reached out to the Ingush.

Prayer Items

Pray for Ingush hearts to hear and receive the gospel.
Pray that more of Christ's ambassadors will go to the Ingush and practice the unconditional love of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Pray that workers will distribute the Ingush JESUS Film and to translate the Bible and other resources into the Ingush language.
Pray for the establishment of a viable, indigenous and reproducing Ingush church.
