The Samagara community lives primarily in India's southern states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Telangana. They speak Kannada, the primary language of Karnataka.
Samagara women work hard and wield power in community decision making. Their main occupation is leather work and the manufacture of footwear popularly called Kolhapuri chappals. Presently, a large number have switched over to other professions. Education among the present generation is on the rise. A certain cluster of Samagara families are highly educated and well settled.
They have followed the Hindu religion for ages, never having embraced other religions. They have an unflinching faith in Hinduism. They are mostly devotees of Shiva and Durga. This kind of devotion keeps the Samagara from investigating the claims of the risen Christ.
The Samagara community needs to understand that they have worth in the eyes of the God who created them. They need to hear that Jesus Christ came to save sinners.
Pray that the Samagara people will be adopted through the People Group Adoption program so that they will have regular prayer and ultimately workers among them.
Pray for workers who are driven by the love and boldness of the Holy Spirit to go to them.
Pray that the Samagara would have a spiritual hunger that will open their hearts to the King of kings.
Pray for a movement to Christ that would soon bless them with God's favor.
