Introduction / History

The Hwana, or Hona people, as their name is sometimes spelled, live in a rural area where they make their livelihood through the keeping of small farms. Christian influence came into the area in 1923 with 92 percent claiming some church affiliation. With the positive response to the printing of the Gospel of Luke and the "JESUS" film, the Christian community is eager for more Scripture in their mother tongue language. When Jesus walked into their village by means of a movie screen, Hwana believers were shocked! How did He learn their language? The film made the Gospel real. It made Hwana speakers hungry for more of God's personal message to them.

Despite the fact that most of the Hwana population affiliate with Christian churches, many don't understand what they profess to believe. Church meetings, readings and prayers have always been in another language. For that reason, many didn't know that God could understand the language of their hearts! Now that they have tasted the Word for themselves, they are eager to feed regularly on the savory Bread of Life.
