Galeshi is a dialect of the broader Galesh or Mandazi languages. Because of their isolation in the hills of northern Iran, Galeshi hasn t changed as much as the parent languages.
More of them are moving to cities, especially those from the younger generation. Those who remain in rural Iran are seasonal nomads, moving twice a year to make sure their herds have adequate grazing lands. As often happens with rural people, men tend to do the more physically demanding jobs, while women perform domestic tasks such as cooking.
Galeshis are Shia Muslims like the Iranian majority. They blend Islamic doctrines with pre-Islamic practices.
Galeshi speakers live in a part of Iran that has few visitors. Most Christ followers in that country are from the majority Farsi-speaking community. Such people prefer to stay in cities.
Pray for the Lord to open opportunities for Galeshi speakers to hear and respond to the gospel. Pray for Galeshi family leaders to have dreams and visions of the Risen Christ, so they will seek the one who offers eternal life. Pray that soon Galeshi disciples will make more disciples. Pray for the Lord to look after their needs as many are moving to urban centers.
