Introduction / History
The Hazaras are a Shia Muslim minority in Afghanistan. Unlike other Afghans, they have Asian facial features, suggesting that they are descended from Mongol soldiers left behind by Genghis Khan in the 1200s.
Persecution has shaped and defined the Hazaras. More than half of the Hazara population was massacred in 1893. Later, fundamentalist governments, including the Taliban, attempted to deny their historical, political and cultural value. This has driven many to flee to places like the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Hazaras are one of many expatriate groups living in the UAE. The majority of the population in that nation actually consists of non-citizens. Many of the Hazaras reside in Dubai, the economic capital of UAE.

Hazaras in the UAE engage in a variety of occupations. Some are unskilled workers, while others have high-paying jobs. Many notable Hazaras are well-educated.
What Are Their Beliefs?
The majority of the people of the UAE are Sunni Muslim. The Hazaras belong to the small but strong Shia minority. The two branches of Islam get along peacefully.
What Are Their Needs?
The Hazaras need a place to raise their families and earn a living. They also need a place where they can safely hear about Jesus and follow Him.
