Introduction / History

The people group are known as Licanlantay or Likanantaƭ. They are properly called AtacameƱo. Their ancestral language is Kunza, but since 1978 all members speak Spanish and Kunza is considered dormant.

Where Are they Located?

They live in the Atacama Desert in Argentina and northern Chile.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They make their living from tourism and small scale agriculture. They also raise guanacos, alpaca, goats and sheep.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They hold animistic beliefs, though most identify with Christianity.
