Introduction / History

The Larus speak the Laro language and live in the Nuba Mountains of southern Sudan. As a small group, their language is in the process of being replaced.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Larus live in extended families that work together and are extended into clan affiliations. There is strong communal responsibilities to help one another for farming, childrearing, etc.

Gender roles are traditional. Men clear the land for growing crops such as peanuts, sorghum, and millet. Men also do home construction and maintenance. Often a Laru man will move to urban areas for a season to earn needed money for his family. Women take care of the children, tend gardens, cook, and manage the home.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most Larus are Christian, and they have an Evangelical minority. Though Bible translation is in process, they have valuable oral tools such as gospel recordings, the JESUS Film, and other audio tools. They are well-equipped to be Christ bearers to others.

What Are Their Needs?

Partly because of the fighting, the Larus lack adequate schools and medical clinics. Their infrastructure is lacking.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to protect the Laru community from their enemies.
Pray for their infrastructure needs to be met.
Pray for hundreds of Larus to become Christ bearers to those who don t know the Lord, especially the Muslims.
Pray for Laru disciples to disciple others.
