Introduction / History

The Looknon of the Philippines live primarily in the Visayas region, an archipelago consisting of six main islands: Panay, Negros, Cebu, Bohol, Leyte, and Samar. Visayas is known as the "cradle" of the Philippines. Most Looknon practiced animism and polytheism until the arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century, when Catholicism was imposed as the state religion.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Looknon, like many of the people in Visayas region, have historically engaged in fishing and agriculture. In recent years, tourism has become a growing industry.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Today, the majority of the Looknon profess to be Catholic. They are considered "reached," yet syncretism is widespread.

What Are Their Needs?

The Looknon need to be willing to take Christ to those without a gospel witness. There are plenty of unreached people groups in Mindanao Island for example.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Looknon to see their need for a Savior. Pray for them to leave behind their syncretistic practices and seek to follow Jesus. Pray for the JESUS Film and New Testament to be shared widely among them and for the complete Bible to be translated into their language.
