Introduction / History

The people who now form the community of Mixtepec migrated into the region during the 15th century from surrounding areas.

Where Are they Located?

Mixtepec is located in the south of Mexico in the state of Oaxaca in the mountainious region of the Sierra Madre del Sur.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The people live in small village communities. They grow corn and vegetables and some have a few cows, sheep, goats, pigs, turkeys or chicken.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The predominant religion is Roman Catholic, but for centuries the people have mixed it with the pre-Columbianic beliefs in the gods of rain, the earth, the rivers and other spiritual beings.

What Are Their Needs?

Their biggest need is for spiritual liberation from the oppression of the forces of darkness which cause much fear, envy and effectively block the way to find salvation in the Lord himself.

Prayer Points

* Pray for spiritual growth for the few Christians, so they can be shining lights and effective testimonies to their relatives and neighbors.
* Thank God for the freedom they have to express their faith and pray that it might continue to be this way.
