Introduction / History

A migrant community, the Darjee are sometimes known as Damai. They live in Nepal.

What Are Their Lives Like?

They are non-vegetarian, and rice is their staple cereal. The Darjee women play a significant role in their economy by plucking tea leaves in tea gardens for wages. The traditional occupation of the Darjee is tailoring.
The Darjee are traditional musicians. The Nepali Brahmin do not accept water from the Darjee, but the Sarki, Kami, etc. accept water from them.

What Are Their Beliefs?

These Hindus regard the Kuldevta as their household deity and worship Vandevta.

What Are Their Needs?

The Darjee people have a low literacy rate. Gospel workers will need to use non-printed materials.

Prayer Points

Pray for workers to carry the gospel to these people, especially in oral form. They need several exposures to the gospel before they might respond.
Pray for the few followers of Christ among this low caste community, that they will follow Christ with zeal and holiness.
Pray they will be rooted and established in love.
