Introduction / History

The Mehar are a Scheduled Caste living in the Hadoti Region of Rajasthan. They speak in Haranti which is an Indo Aryan language. The Mehar have several clans.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Some of them own land. They work in farming and the women help as farm laborers. They have their own water wells. They have a low education level so the gospel will need to be given in oral form. Mehars have what anthropologists call a "joking relationship" with the younger siblings of the opposite sex. They must be serious and behave themselves with the older sibling of their own gender. And if their mother in law shows up, they will probably leave the room out of deference.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Mehar are Hindus and have their own festivals.

What Are Their Needs?

The Mehar people need to experience the love and protection of God the Father.

Prayer Points

Pray that Indian believers will lead them into a disciple making movement. Pray that gospel recordings and the JESUS Film will lead them to put their faith in Him alone. Pray for intercessors and workers to go to them. Pray for a spiritual hunger that will lead them to the blessings of Jesus.
