Introduction / History

The Panans are an ancient Tamil people and are mentioned in Old Tamil literature. Their age-old occupation is singing of hymns to Hindu deities. They were the main orators in the king's palace and acted as ambassadors. They were also dancers. They are scattered all over, but the majority live in the state of Tamil Nadu. They are also found in Kerala State and in Sri Lanka.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Presently, some of them are tailors.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Most of them are Hindus. A small number are Christian believers, but they are still an unreached people group. There are many more Christians among them in Sri Lanka than there are in India.

What Are Their Needs?

Most of them are economically, socially and spiritually struggling. There is also a lack of understanding and unity among them.

Prayer Points

Pray they will experience and embrace the salvation of Jesus Christ.
Pray there will be an increase in awareness about them.
Pray for outreach teams to visit them and make sure they have the JESUS Film.
