Introduction / History

The Patikar live in West Bengal and are Hindus. The word Pati means mat. They speak, read and write in Bengali and are not vegetarians who eat wheat.

The Patikar are monogamous. Widowers can marry again. There are birth and marriage rituals. On the death of the father, sons and daughters have same shares of the the property but the daughters do not claim it. The oldest son becomes in charge of the home.

The Patikar make a certain kind of mat from the mutra plant and sell it. They have a council to look after them. Their children are educated to secondary level. They use modern medicines.

Prayer Points

* Pray that gospel materials will lead them to salvation.
* Pray that council leaders will come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
