Introduction / History

Auvergne is located in the center of France. It is home to the Auvergnat ethnic group. At one time they had their own language, but now they speak standard French.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Some Auvergnat people work in tourism. Most are in agriculture, especially in the wine and dairy industries. They have small family-run farms. Their region has many places to purchase food, including supermarkets and open air markets.

Social control is enforced by France’s court system. Weddings have two sections. The first part takes place in the mayor’s office and the second is at a church.

France’s central government mandates that inheritances must be equal for all siblings, but this would result in small farms becoming too small to operate. Therefore, the Auvergnat people have one sibling, usually the youngest, pay off the others and continue running the family farm.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Being rural, the Auvergnat are more religious than most peoples in France. They are devout Roman Catholics, dedicated to the church.

What Are Their Needs?

The Auvergnat need their spiritual lives to be centered around Jesus Christ rather than a religious institution.

Prayer Points

Pray for a spiritual revival that will transform France’s Roman Catholic Church in such a way that it centers on Jesus Christ.

Pray for Auvergnat disciples to make more disciples who will make even more disciples.

Pray for a willingness to view the JESUS Film and seek a relationship with Jesus Christ.
