Introduction / History

Asera is a subgroup of the Tolaki people of Southeast Sulawesi Province. Tolaki people are spread out throughout this odd-shaped island. They speak the Asera dialect of Tolaki.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Asera are mainly farmers and fishermen. They grow rice, cassava and corn. They also weave textiles and produce handicrafts using natural materials found near their homes.

They have their own forms of music and dance which they perform during celebrations and festivals. Their musical instruments include the kulintang and the tambur.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though they are officially Sunni Muslims, the Asera Tolaki maintain pre-Islamic religious practices. They worship natural forces and spirits.

What Are Their Needs?

The Asera Tolaki need to put all their hope and faith in Jesus Christ, the only one who provides abundant life to those who call on his name.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to bless this community economically and spiritually.

Ask God to raise up Asera Tolaki who are more desirous to know the truth than to stay on the broad road.

Ask God to send loving, committed workers to the Asera Tolaki in the near future.

Pray the Asera Tolaki would no longer be hidden away from the influence of Christ.

Pray for many of them to make disciples who will make even more disciples.
