Introduction / History

The Mesqan people live in the highlands, at the base of the mountains and in the surrounding city of Buttajira, Ethiopia. The Mesqan, who speak a language related to other Gurage languages, do not consider themselves to be Gurage. They share a border to the south with the Silt 'e people, a large Muslim group.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Like most groups in the Gurage region of Ethiopia, the Mesqan are traders and the men travel a great deal. The women travel much less and have little opportunity to learn neighboring language, other than Silt 'e.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Mesqan are devout Muslims and have little interest in seeing their language developed. There are Christians among them who can be Christ-bearers to the Muslims.

What Are Their Needs?

Mesqan Christian believers need to complete the harvest by taking Christ to their Muslim neighbors.

Prayer Points

Pray for the Lord to purify and anoint Mesqan Christians to be salt and light to the Muslims in their midst.
Pray for Muslim Mesqans to have dreams and see visions of the victorious Christ, giving them open hearts to the life-saving gospel.
Pray for Mesqan disciples to disciple many in the Muslim community.
