Introduction

The Kollan of Kerala speak, read, and write in Malayalam, the primary language of Kerala, a state in southwest India. The Viswakarma Kollan are traditionally blacksmiths but now many work as agricultural day laborers, goldsmiths, businessmen or office workers. The Kollan now have monogamous marriages. They prefer cross-cousin marriages arranged by their families. They allow for re-marriage after a divorce or if the spouse dies. After the death of the father, the oldest son takes charge of family matters. Their children are educated. They have an organization that looks after their needs.

Ministry Obstacles

Since there are probably no Christ followers at all among the Kollan Viswakarma community, it will take an act of God for them to respond. Most likely there will need to be an entire family or clan that responds at one time, so they are not subject to community pressure to return to Hinduism.

Outreach Ideas

Pray for the Followers of Christ

Pray for the Entire People Group

Pray that the leaders of the Kollan will come to Jesus Christ and lead their community into a movement to Christ.
Pray that gospel materials and the internet will become easily available to them.
Pray for a spiritual hunger that will lead them to the only savior.
