Introduction / History

The Charan are a Muslim community living in Pakistan’s Sindh Province. Though most also speak standard Sindhi, they have their own tongue that includes Punjabi and Rajasthani words. It is a dialect of Sindhi.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Charan people excel as musicians. They serve as musicians, singers and dancers at Sufi Muslim shrines and religious festivals. Their music encompasses a number of genres including bhajans, qawwali and sufiana kalam. Their performances are lively, and their dance style is graceful.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Though the Charan are predominantly Sufi Muslims, they incorporate Hindu practices. Muslim and dance are an important part of their religion.

What Are Their Needs?

They need the Holy Spirit to open their eyes so they can see Jesus as he is.

Prayer Points

Pray for many from this unreached people group to understand both God’s judgment and his majestic glory.

Pray for loving workers to go to the Charan people, and for their hearts to be ready to receive their savior.

Pray for a chain reaction of families reaching families that result in thousands of new disciples who share their faith with others.

Pray for grace and truth expanding into their entire society as all believers learn to love others.
