Pattani Malay in Thailand
pah-tah-NEE muh-LAY

As descendants of Malaysian Muslims, the Pattani Malay have a distinct identity in Buddhist Thailand. Their location is a cultural intersection between the Muslim Malay cultures to the south and the Buddhist Thai cultures to the north. Their distinction as Muslims in a Buddhist country has led to many separatist movements, sometimes with violence, against the Thai government. Most Pattani Malays are self-employed either as farmers or fishermen. Thai churches could potentially reach the Pattani Malay with church planting efforts. OneHope gives Scriptures to children in all parts of Thailand, including the Pattani Province.

Ministry Obstacles
Islam's teaching of obedience-based salvation leaves no room for a holy savior. Muslims hear negative things about Christian theology before they have a chance to hear otherwise.

Scripture Focus
"And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him."  Hebrews 11:6

Scripture Prayer
Pray for this people group to come to God and understand that He will reward them with His truth.

Prayer Focus
Pray for God's peace to rule in southern Thailand. Pray that the Holy Spirit would reveal Christ to Pattani Malay leaders, perhaps through dreams. Ask the Lord to raise up persons of peace among the Pattani Malay who will receive the gospel and disciple others. With a few followers of Christ among the Pattani Malay, pray for the Lord to establish his holy presence in their community. Pray they would soon accept the blessings of Christ for their families.
