Nubi in Uganda

Nubi in Uganda

The Nubi people of Uganda and Kenya originally come from southern South Sudan. They originate from many tribes but were united by military service using Arabic. Their language is heavily influenced by Arabic, but it includes features of the languages of South Sudan. The Nubi population is somewhat scattered because unlike the other East African tribes, they have no historic homeland. The Nubi are strictly and piously Muslim.

Ministry Obstacles

There are no known followers of Christ among the Nubi in Uganda. This means that the gospel must come from someone outside their language group.

Outreach Ideas

Translating the Bible to Nubi is a priority so that the Nubi people can access the true and living word of God. Currently, they have gospel recordings.

Scripture Focus

"But in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect,"  1 Peter 3:15

Scripture Prayer

Pray for today’s people group to learn to worship Christ as Lord and King.

Prayer Focus

Pray that community leaders would become open to the possibility of Bible translation in their language. Pray for mature believers in the local community to intentionally reach out to the Nubi. Pray that God would open the hearts of the Nubi people to see who Jesus really is and be willing to follow him, despite great social pressure. Pray for a movement to Christ among the Nubi that would draw other unbelieving populations to the Lord.
