The Wadaginam speakers are located in a very remote, rural area, south of the town of Bogia.
The self-reported literacy rates in the district are 31 per cent for males and 17 per cent for females. However, there is evidence that actual literacy rates are closer to 10 per cent for males and six percent for females, particularly in the remote Wadaginam area. There is only one high school in the entire district and one vocational center.
The main cash crops are coffee and betelnut, but they are only grown on a small scale. Most are engaged in subsistence farming of food crops, betelnut, livestock and poultry. While access to service centers is limited, more and more roads are being built by logging and mining ventures.
There is outreach and translation work happening in the neighboring language groups of Tanguat and Inapang. Tanguat is immediately north and Inapang immediately east of Wadaginam land. The Tanguat church was planted in 2011 with the help of the Inapang church. Could they help to bring God's word to the Wadaginam church?
The Wadaginam need adequate schools so their literacy rate can rise. A higher literacy rate will give them access to higher-paying jobs and the possibility of reading God's word.
Please pray for an improvement in the education opportunities for the Wadaginam people and their neighboring language groups.
Ask God for workers to help bring his word to the Wadaginam people in a language that they understand.
Pray for an audio translation of the Bible given that so few can read.
