Introduction / History

The Yala people are related to the Idoma, a major group that lives in the western part of Benue State. The Yala left Benue State in search of resources (including salt) and settled in Cross River State in Southeast Nigeria.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Yala are subsistence farmers, raising yams and cassava. They also raise livestock, including chickens. Some have catfish ponds for their fish supply.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Some Yala consider themselves "Christian," but only a small percentage are evangelical. Many also continue to practice ethnic religions.

What Are Their Needs?

The region where the Yala live is known for its bad roads. Travel can be difficult and this impacts both their spiritual and economic development.

Prayer Items

Pray for laborers who will teach sustainable farming methods and demonstrate God's love in practical ways.
Pray for the Lord to soften the hearts of the Yala and for them to receive the gift of eternal life in Jesus.
Pray there will soon come a day when Yala Christians will win and disciple others, even from neighboring tribes.
