Introduction / History

Bind people live in mainly in West Bengal, but some are scattered throughout northern India.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Bind girls often marry at 13. They have elaborate weddings performed by a "holy man" from the nearby village. Then she moves in with her husband's family. She wears conch shell bangles and puts vermilion in the part of her hair to show that she is a married woman. She spends the rest of her life caring for children, cooking rice and making baskets from reeds. A Bind girl rarely has the chance to get an adequate education. They are usually a poor community.

What Are Their Beliefs?

The Bind people practice the Hindu religion and worship family deities as well as traditional Hindu gods.

What Are Their Needs?

They have no idea that Jesus loves them and has provided for all their spiritual needs. This people group is cut off from the only one who can save them from spiritual death.

Prayer Points

Ask God to prepare their hearts even now for the day when the Bind people hear the gospel.

Pray that entire Bind families will learn about Christ and embrace him alone.

Pray for loving workers to go to the Bind people in West Bengal.

Pray for Bind leaders to have dreams and visions of the loving, victorious savior, so they will open the door to the gospel.
