Introduction / History

The Sagar are Hindus. Their name is related to the sea.

The Sagar in Gujarat speak, read and write in Gujarati. They work in agriculture and are not vegetarians. Women help with financial matters. They have birth and marriage rituals. The dead are buried or cremated. The bereaved and divorced can marry again. On the death of the father, the sons inherit the property. They have a community council to look after them and settle disagreements among them. Modern medicine is used by them. They have a low literacy level so the gospel will need to be given in oral form too.

In Daman and Diu some of the Sagar have land and some do not. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, the mother gets half of the property and the sons the other half with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home.

Prayer Points

* Scripture Prayers for the Sagar in India.

* Pray that the council leaders come to Jesus Christ and lead others to Him.
* Pray that gospel recordings will lead them to salvation.
