The name Madhi-baan loosely translates to "the peaceful" in the Somali language. The Madhiban people are among the original inhabitants of Somalia. Far back in time, they were known as fearless hunters who would dare to attack lions and elephants with poisoned arrows. Their ancestors were the Macrobians, some of whom were the kings and queens in the land of Punt. Punt means "the Land of Gods."
Many of the Madhiban people are barbers or blacksmiths. Being a tanner is a very unpleasant job. Madhiban people must endure the stench of decaying carcasses and the chemicals it takes to process cow hides, making them into leather.
Traditionally, the Madhiban people were animists who worshipped the spirits of snakes and other animals. Hundreds of years ago, they were introduced to Islam. Today they are Muslim, but like most Islamic people in the Horn of Africa, they still hold to some pre-Islamic practices. They believe the world is filled with various spirits that must be appeased or placated.
The Midgan people need training in areas that will help them to gain better jobs. For example, if they learned certain computer skills or ways to improve Somalia's infrastructure, they could excel. Believers with the right skills might be able to provide this kind of training.
May the Lord bless the Madhiban and keep them; may his face shine upon them.
Specifically, pray for the Lord to bless them in their work world, and especially with their spiritual lives.
Pray for a rapidly expanding network of Madhiban disciples making more disciples.
Pray for the Lord to thrust out his ambassadors to the Madhiban community.
