The Nagbanshi in Bihar speak Nagpuri and Hindi and read and write in Devanagari. They are not vegetarians and eat wheat and rice.
The Nagbanshi do not allow divorce. They have birth and marriage rituals. The dead are cremated. On the death of the father, the sons inherit the property with the oldest son becoming in charge of the home.
The Nagbanshi work in agriculture and other work. Community elders settle disagreements for them. They are Hindus by religion and worship the nag too, which is the cobra. They are educated and use modern medicines and family planning. The West Himalayan region has been one of the leading places for the Naga cult.
The Nagbanshi also live in Himachal Pradesh. The Brahman Nag are landowners and live off the produce from their own land.
