A small number of Africans were in Germany during the days of the slave trade. Black Africans came to Germany during their brief time of colonialism in Africa. That started in the 1880s. Germany had exceptionally brutal colonial policies which involved genocide by starvation of specific tribes.
During colonial days, race people in Germany were considered by the government as not legitimate. Their treatment became worse during the Third Reich Era. The Nazis went so far as to sterilize mixed race children to preserve the “Aryan race.”
Since Germany became an industrial power in the decades after WWII, they have hosted a number of Black Africans, mostly as cheap labor.
Black Africans in Germany often have menial jobs as dishwashers, etc. Yet many are shopkeepers service providers or care workers. Others come to Germany from among Africa’s elite. They study at universities and take on professional jobs. Some are making it in music, entertainment, and sports in Germany. There are Africans who have fled violence in Nigeria and Eritrea who have made their way to Germany and other European countries.
Over half of the Black Africans in Germany have a Christian background. Others are Muslim.
Black Africans in Germany often need help in adjusting to a new language, culture, and way of life. Christians can be instrumental in helping them.
Pray for the Holy Spirit to be a purifying force for Black Africans in Germany.
Pray for Black African immigrants to be God’s ambassadors to Muslim immigrants.
Pray for them to disciple people to disciple still others.
Pray for the Lord to help them get the education they need to thrive in urban Germany.
