Koguman is the main language of a very remote group of people. They are located in the rural Josephstaal LLG of Madang Province. Many communities in this area can only be reached by air. Thank God for Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF) and SIL Aviation who operate flights into these remote communities of Papua New Guinea.
The Koguman villagers rely on their land for their livelihood. They raise poultry and grow food crops and betelnut. When presented with the opportunity, they sell any surplus for cash. Logging developments can offer more significant income.
There is a very high percentage of both Evangelicals and Christians from other backgrounds among the Kuguman people.
Because of limited education opportunities, very few Koguman are literate. It is likely that fewer than one in seven (if any) can read with comprehension. This adds to the obstacles to accessing God's word.
Please pray for vast improvements in the education opportunities for the Koguman people.
The Koguman language is related to the Pal language, which is spoken by the neighboring language group.
Neither the Pal nor the Koguman have any scripture in their language. Ask the Lord of the harvest for workers to help the local people to translate the good news into their own language.
Pray that any logging or mining ventures will not damage the ecosystem that the Koguman people depend on for fresh water, game meat and gardening.
