The Parecis are an indigenous people who live in the state of Mato Grosso in central-western Brazil. They have occupied this region for centuries and historically lived in large villages. Contact with non-indigenous society increased during colonial expansion and later economic development, bringing changes to their territory and way of life.
The Parecis live in indigenous lands where agriculture plays an important role, especially the cultivation of crops for both subsistence and commercial purposes.
