The Sara Majingai Ngama, also called Sar, are an ethnic people of southern Chad who speak the Sar language, a member of the Central Sudanic branch of the Nilo Saharan language family. They are part of the larger Sara people cluster, a major ethnolinguistic group indigenous to southern Chad and neighboring areas.
The Sara peoples historically occupied the region south of Lake Chad and maintained village-based societies with patrilineal clans and elders guiding community affairs. Their language and cultural identity place them within the broader Sara tradition of Central Chad. Colonization and internal migrations have influenced settlement patterns but have not erased their distinct ethnolinguistic identity. The Sar live predominantly in rural villages near Sarh, Koumra, and Moissala in Moyen Chari Prefecture.
They are traditionally sedentary farmers whose daily lives revolve around agriculture and village life.
Families grow millet, sorghum, cassava, peanuts, yams, and other staples for subsistence and local markets. Livestock such as goats, sheep, and poultry are kept when feasible, and women contribute significantly through garden cultivation and harvest processing.
