Introduction / History

In the 1600s, some lowland Scots were re-located to Ulster, in northern Ireland. They maintained their Presbyterian faith in this Irish Catholic land. Throughout the centuries, numerous conflicts have arisen between the Ulster Scots and the Irish to their south. Displaced through hardship, many moved to other lands like the United States where they eventually integrated with the local people. Those who maintain the Ulster Scottish dialect and culture are in the U.K. and Ireland.

What Are Their Lives Like?

Those who remain either in the United Kingdom or Ireland retained their old dialect and culture. Typically, the Ulster Scots identify more with Scotland than with Ireland.

Their Protestant religion sets them apart from the Roman Catholic majority.

What Are Their Beliefs?

Scots are often Presbyterian, but, like most Europeans, they have become secularized. In other words, churches are places for weddings and funerals, but they don t provide guidance.

Fortunately, there are many Scots who follow Christ. They can be a major source of workers spanning the globe and bringing good news to the spiritually lost.

What Are Their Needs?

No matter where they live, Scots need a time of spiritual refreshment brought by the Holy Spirit.

Prayer Items

Pray for the Holy Spirit to revive Ulster Scottish churches and families, driving them into the loving arms of Jesus.
Pray that a renewed spiritual fervor will drive them out as Christ s ambassadors.
Pray that soon Ulster- Scottish disciples will make more disciples throughout the U.K.
