Introduction / History

The Dusadh claim that a prince, Dushasan, is their forbearer. In 1857, both Hindus and Muslims were revolting against England's East India Company, but the British managed to raise an army partly from the Dosadh people, and they prevailed. This led to the British crown holding far more power in South Asia than ever before.
The Dusadh people are primarily in Bihar, but also in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, and Odisha. There is a small number of them in Bangladesh and Nepal.

What Are Their Lives Like?

The Dusadh are often employed as village watchmen and messengers Their primary vocation is seeking alms while singing Kapila Mangal and Sitala Mangal songs. Some work in agriculture.

What Are Their Beliefs?

They worship many Hindu gods and goddesses: Garaya, Baghat, Garam Gossain, Kudra, Barpahar, Manasa, Satbahni, Shiva, Durga, Lakshmi, Sitala and others.

What Are Their Needs?

Christian workers need to note the extreme poverty of the Dosadh community in Bangladesh, and not neglect their material and physical needs. Outreach Ideas Christians need to serve these people by helping improve their living conditions. First they need to establish friendships based on trust.

Prayer Points

Pray for an improved standard of living in Bangladesh.
Pray the Dosadh will have good schools available for their children and desire to send their children to school.
Pray for spiritual hunger and discernment among Dusadh leaders.
Pray for Dosadh disciples who will make more disciples.
