Bahariya is the name of an oasis located in north central Egypt, roughly 370 kilometers from Cairo. There are many villages in the oasis, and the people are known as the Wahati. The oasis has changed drastically since an asphalt road connecting Bahariya to Cairo was finished in the early 1970s. Electricity and the internet are now available.
Being Muslim, the Baharia believe that Allah determines their eternal salvation. Some believe that spirits determine their daily lives, so they use charms and amulets to appease them. Others look only to Allah, but none look only to Jesus Christ.
Visiting the Bahariya Oasis requires some effort as it is fairly remote. Antiquities (tombs, mummies and other artifacts) draw tourists, who bring much needed revenue to the area. Believers can bring the good news as they visit sites of interest.
"And he said with a loud voice, Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come, and worship him who made heaven and earth, the sea and the springs of water." Revelation 14:7
Pray for today’s people group to learn to fear God and give Him all the glory.
It is unlikely there are followers of Jesus in the Bahariya Oasis, but there might be a few. Pray for any believers in the area to have easy access to gospel recordings in their language. Pray the Lord would open the spiritual eyes of imams (Muslim prayer leaders) as they study the Koran to look to Jesus. May the Son of God reveal himself to many in dreams or visions.
